On my last trip to Japan I spied this cute wool tunic at Muji. I didn’t buy it, though, because I am often captivated by these tunic-y things and think they are cute, and then when I put them on I look like an indentured servant or something. It looked easy enough to copy, so hey, that’s what I did.
In keeping with my doubleknit fabric theme, I used some coffee-colored ponte I acquired in the fall from Denver Fabrics (I think it was Denver. I can’t remember. Ponte is readily available). It was great to sew with–heavy and sturdy! There are no set-in sleeves, so this was basically like making a long t-shirt. The underarms came out a tad on the snug side, but it didn’t bother me when I wore it. All in all, I am happy with the way this turned out, and it is super comfy.
Happy 2012!
This looks CRAZY cute. I bought something similar at a CA charity shop recently, with a pleat in the front (I’m taking full advantage of that pleat for maternity purposes). I bet you could do a lot with this by just altering the pattern in very slight ways. Well done.
love it!
I love this so much. My love for it is surpassed only by my love for the tunic you and Frenchie made me. WHY CAN’T WE BE THE SAME SIZE so I could just trace off your pattern. GRRR. I would wear one of these every day, I swear.
This is so cute!!!!!
u did an excellent job!
i thought muji when i first saw the pic, the color and cut is perfect
urs is better too cos the one from muji is really thin and doesnt hold shape like the ponte u used
Cute, cute, cute! I love the way it hangs on you, perfect drape.
oh so lovely- wish i had more time to sew. but…where did you get those boots??? i can’t wear anything with heels so i’m always on the look out for cute boots that keep me “grounded” ;o).
Get out of my head! I went to two fabric stores looking for the right fabric to make a knit tunic and there you are! One store had nice ponte but too expensive, so I passed. I shall look online! You are an inspriation (not an indentured servant).
this is super cute and practical. I am teaching an teen fashion design class in a couple of weeks and this is the kind of item that they can use to learn basic patternmaking from and also sewing with knits!!
I also love this, plus the green nail polish! I definitely don’t think it makes you look like an indentured servant, but then, for the last two years I have been living somewhere that the tunic look is standard. Happy new year!
I like your boots. What are those?
so cute, the boots are awesome
