Today the Hedster and I went on a little adventure. After a nice little run at Avila Beach, we headed south, an area rather unfamiliar to us. We went to the little town of Guadalupe. It has a predominantly Hispanic population now, but the buildings are quite old, and I believe parts of it ended up in the film Seabiscuit. Hedster had read about a Mexican restaurant there, so we went to check it out.
The interior of the place was like an old diner. It had a long counter with sunny yellow stools, and the booths had yellow formica. We both had the Sunday special of chicken mole.
Looks tasty, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, the mole sauce was not to our liking, but that didn’t stop us from scarfing it down. The beans were outstanding!
After lunch we headed to Santa Maria, a nasty and sprawling town (I believe Rachael can confirm this). We planned to hit Betty’s Fabrics for their 20 percent off everything sale. Little did we know that there is a Betty’s Yarns sharing the same space! And yes, it was 20 percent off everything in there, too. They had a bunch of Rowan yarn for 50 percent off, but I showed enormous restraint and left with just these items:
One last thing: Rob, you have created a monster:

Sounds like a fun little field trip! Isn’t fizz yarn fun?! Despite my moderate success with the BOC, I’m knitting another (also in blue fizz) for my roommate who just adores the look of the fuzzy BOC. Btw, love the food gallery! All that yummy, pretty food.
50% off Rowan and you left it there?! Explain. The colors must not have been to your liking or something. Yeah, that’s it. Sounds like a fun trip over all!
I am trying very hard to not look at the yummy cookies. I can’t believe how mouthwatering they look, even on my dinky computer monitor!
I’ve made that Knitting Pure and Simple cardigan and it’s one of my favorites. When I find the right yarn I’m going to make another. What yarn do you have in mind?
More fizz? What’s this destined to become? A scarf or another fuzzy BOC?
Half off Rowan yarn? Must’ve been something wrong with it . . or are you on a diet? Miao! That’s almost like the time I found Woolease at a dollar store – in nice colors, too – and didn’t buy even one ball. Je suis stupide, quelquefois!
(blush) I didn’t mean to imply anything – just that I kick myself for having that much pretty yarn available to me for $1 a ball & I didn’t bite.
So what’s in the little packages? Emergency skeins of Indulgence? Hmmmm..
I was thinking the same as others about prit near turning your back on a Rowan sale, but decided not to say anything after all. snicker.
50% off Rowan and you passed! I was threatening Kerrie to fly to London to get in on the sale at Liberty. Hell, Santa Maria is much closer…AND there’s mole…(what didn’t you like about it?)
The fizz is cute! There’s a fizz scarf on Knitty from a few issues ago…hmmm…
What great restraint you showed with your three item purchase! One of my LYS is having a major sale this week, and hope I get to it (without kids!).
I love that Knitting Pure & Simple cardi pattern. What a fun field trip! And what restraint! I would have been an absolute glutton with the Rowan.
Mwahahahahah…glad to have enabled (candy AND yarn).
But darlin’, I never introduced you to the dark caramels…those are YOUR fault.
Hey! Just catching up here… What a great little field trip – my family has been going to Guadalupe for dinner there for the last fifteen years. And yep, I agree with you about Santa Maria (we had a song when I was growing up “Santa Maria, Bad Idea!” Now that jingle rings in my head everytime I hear the words – very bad now that I have a new officer at my work with the last name of Santamaria.)
