Miraculously, I found time today to do a bit of sewing. The design for a mini messenger bag had been running through my head for a couple of weeks:
You can’t see it all that well. I would have modeled it in a headless shot, but I didn’t feel like getting out of my “house uniform” of polarfleece pants (affectionately known as “fur pants”). I made the bag out of leftover fabric from this:
Hee hee.

WOW!
did you upholster/slipcover the chair yourself? that chair is gorgeous!
And that bag is so chic!
LOL. I was just about to ask the same thing. Did you do that chair by yourself!? You rock, lady.
I love the photo styling of thermostat as bag hook. Very elegant.
How is “The Namesake?” I loved “Interpreter of Maladies” and really want to read it but my book group always waits for books to be released in paperback.
You constantly amaze me! I am just trying to make a table runner for Valentine’s Day and my brain is cramping.
Love the bag! Very creative pattern.
please put that bag pattern in the mail — i need it!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
oh, every chair needs a matching bag! That’s so awesome. I absolutely love the fabric, too. You amaze me.
Fur pants. With the weather being what it is here, I could use some myself. Brrrr.
dude i just noticed the food gallery! has that always been there! now i’m starving!!!
Cool – every home should have a matching chair and bag. very nice.
Gorgeous chair! You’re amazing. You’re inspiring me to try our kitty-mauled chair, too. I know the library has a book on upholstering. . A bag would be easier & more fun to start with, though 🙂
Cute bag! Reminds me of the coat I saw in Poppy Fabric in Oakland–they made a mod coat out of the cutest upholstery fabric. Did you line it?
Fantaaaaaaaaaaastic chair. Simply great 🙂
I read this entry wrong – I thought you had ripped up the chair to make the bag! Either way, fabulosa.
I’m just catching up on blogs and had fun reading about your Berkeley past! I used to work on Solano Ave and all the places you menioned are part of my past too–although my parents still live there and I get to visit regularly. Fun to meet another Berzerklian. 🙂
I LOVE the chair! Fabulous. And a matching bag! But of course. Where DO you find the time, Mariko? You probably baked something, too, didn’t you? And knit a swatch? Come on, admit it…
i love the upholstery fabric! i made some curtains from some fabric from whole nine yards not too long ago. they were for friends. it was spendy stuff! the bag is very clever too. looks great!
