searching for santa

Hey out there in blogland–a friend of mine is looking for a pattern for a knitted Christmas stocking that has Santa’s face on it. It is a vintage sort of stocking with a fluffy beard and everything. Can anyone help?
I was reading a magazine (okay, so I will fess up and admit that it was Lucky Magazine. We all have our guilty pleasures!), and there was an article about where to apply blush depending on face shape. I asked Peter what shape of face I have, and he replied in all seriousness, “You have an alien-shaped face … but without the big eyes.”
I know I have been slacking in knitting content. I’ve been working on bpt/blt, but it’s slow going. Maybe I will post some progress photos soon so I don’t get expelled from the knitblogger ring.

if memory serves me correctly, you have a beautiful oblong shaped face. aliens tend to have inverted triangle or upside musubi shaped faces. btw, your eyes are kind of bulging in your photo w/ h.kitty…

    There’s a pattern for sale here with a fluffy-bearded santa. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/nakedsheep/sjsachstknpa.html
BTW, that Peter has a real way with words. 😉
Show us your blt! I wanna see it.

I guess you have to post about about knitting once in a while and knitting was reason I found your blog. But no matter what you’re writing about I’ve kept reading it because it’s funny and you seem like a very nice person.

an alien shaped face without the big eyes? Is that a compliment? I’m sure he meant it in the nicest possible way!!

I’ve been living on the edge of knitblogger expulsion for some time now. But I bought some new yarn today to make some Voodoo Wristwarmers from Knitty!

Sigh…men are so cute when they try to be helpful.

The descriptive powers of men are notoriously limited. I ask my husband the color of something (anything). “Green,” he says. “What shade of green? Blue green? Emerald green?” I ask. “I don’t know! Green! It was green!” he replies, exasperated.
I think you have an oblong face shape, maybe a bit heart-shaped. (p.s. Lucky mag is a guilty pleasure for me, too! Especially since they run a “local” section for SoCal!)

here is the URL for a site http://www.grkp.com/default.htm that sells vintage Christmas stocking patterns. At the bottom of the gallery page is a picture of the stockings that have been in our family for years. This particular pattern has a Santa (with fluffy beard) on one side and a reindeer on the other. Hope your friend finds what she is looking for!

Well thank heavens you don’t have huge alien eyes, you’d have to buy Jackie O glasses instead of the cute fashionable ones that you’ve got now!

i love lucky magazine too! i always try to find the random copy floating around at the gym when i go workout.

Oblong??? Not very complimentary…you have what we call a square oval shaped face!! Definitely not alien!! Don’t wear blush…it’s too old lady. You’re far too young and far too fine for such face painting!

Oh boy! Boys are soooooo silly! I think your face shape is fine and welcome to the teaswap 🙂

To find the shape of your face, pull your hair back and take a full on picture of your face. Put dots at the middle and corners of your forehead, the widest part of your cheeks, the corners of your jaw and the tip of your chin. Et voila! The true shape of your face is revealed. I tried this and went straight out and got a brand new haircut.
