Inspired by Clotilde‘s amazing food blog, I decided to make Hot Cross Buns. They are basically cinnamon rolls without the cinnamon, don’t you think?
Frivolous food purchase of the day:
I know, completely gimmicky. A chocolate shaped like a Pringles potato chip. Hey, it seemed cheap for $1.49, so I thought I’d try them. You know what? They are actually quite tasty.

I just saw those Swoop things yesterday at the grocery store. I spent a bit of time puzzling over them. It seemed like a lot of packing and not a lot of chocolate. And I don’t need anymore of either!
Whoa whoa whoa, hold it right there, Mariko! You think you can tease me with such perfect-and-yummy-looking hot cross buns and not share the recipe? 🙂
OK Mariko. Those bun pictures are food porn. There should be a warning label to protect those of us eating corn flakes for breakfast….
I second what Claudia said. Your site is dangerous to me 😉 Now I am headed over to Clotilde’s site for more danger!
Now I’ll be singing Hot Cross Buns to my son all day! Potato chip shaped chocolate?! Have you tried chocolate covered potato chips (yum)? You can get them at Neiman Marcus. They are sooo good!
A hot cross bun recipe is very tasty when made into a traditional loaf too. Cool, slice and serve with unsalted butter. I make my cross using marzipan.
You know, I saw the Swoops too in a truck stop like the day after you told me you’d send me some Smores bars. I thought “Maybe Mariko would like these…” so it is quite funny that they should turn up on this blog! 🙂
I am wondering what the heck you are supposed to scoop up with them–frosting? smaller candies? custard?
SO healthy!
Oh yum! Tell me they’re as delicious as they look…How about making a choco pringle sandwich…it’d be like Trader Joe’s Chocolate covered pretzels, can’s stop eating those once you start…
those swoop things look like the kind of thing i’d drop into my hot coffee.
mmmmmmm……swooooops.
: )
