disco dots

I sewed another bag today. I had been envisioning a messenger-style bag using the Disco Dots fabric, and after much time spent with my friend the seam ripper, this is what was produced:

I think it’ll be pretty functional. I guess I have a thing for polka dots …

I LOVE it! Grr, I really need to get my mom to teach me how to sew.

  2. Mary says:

Mariko – that’s a great bag! It looks like you used something to give it some shape? Interfacing? Super-interfacing? Do you put anything on the fabric to protect it from dirt and coffee spills?
    :)it’s really pretty!

  3. Jennifer says:

The bag looks great. Is that a Supereggplant label on the front? (Went to Mariage Freres in Tokyo today with a friend–it was wonderful!!)

  4. Bethanie says:

Very cool – post the pattern, or send it to me!

Oh my god, that bag is soooo cute!!!
Did you use any patterns? I’m really tempted.
I emailed cottonshop and they told me that disco dots should be back in stock very soon.

  9. Sara says:

Wow! That is a lot of dots. So what kind of interfacing did you use for your messenger bag? I just started sewing some bags but haven’t found anything stiff enough for the job.

  10. jena says:

Looks like the most adorable kind of camouflage I’ve ever seen! But what will you blend in with? A mountain of birthday presents? Jelly bean display?

  11. Susan says:

  20. Ande says:

That is a riot! I love it! I love visiting here almost everyday to see what you’ve come up with. You are very talented and a little kooky. Both traits are highly revered in Canada!
    Cheers, girl!

You’re like the polka dot stalker…hey remember the polka dot guy at Berkeley who wore head to toe dots and was a bit “off”? If you still want to make bags check out the Vogue patt #7862–it’s a Sandra Betzina pattern for a sling messenger bag with a petite version! http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.200007862=x&TI=20015&pageNum=1&M=&UK=32014114

I envy you! I can’t sew to save my life.. The other week my 10 year old son asked if my SISTER could help make costumes for the school play. Didn’t even ASK me 🙁 Of course I would have had to say no anyway. Very FAB outfit!!

  23. Ann says:

No, Mariko, you have a think for *pink and orange* polka dots!! 🙂 I liked Carolyn’s dare, too.

  24. alison says:

I’ll match Carolyn’s dollar. And that’s a US dollar, which is, like, 20 Canadian dollars or about 8,000 Taiwan dollars!
