I sewed another bag today. I had been envisioning a messenger-style bag using the Disco Dots fabric, and after much time spent with my friend the seam ripper, this is what was produced:
I think it’ll be pretty functional. I guess I have a thing for polka dots …

I LOVE it! Grr, I really need to get my mom to teach me how to sew.
Mariko – that’s a great bag! It looks like you used something to give it some shape? Interfacing? Super-interfacing? Do you put anything on the fabric to protect it from dirt and coffee spills?
:)it’s really pretty!
The bag looks great. Is that a Supereggplant label on the front? (Went to Mariage Freres in Tokyo today with a friend–it was wonderful!!)
Very cool – post the pattern, or send it to me!
wow, mariko! i love, love, love that bag! i’m a huge fan of dots. and stripes. and dots and stripes together!
too funny i’ll give you a dollar to spend a full day out and about in that multi polka dotted ensemble!
Man, I can’t hope to keep up with you! Do you ever rest? 😉 Great bag – your ensemble has me seeing spots!
Oh my god, that bag is soooo cute!!!
Did you use any patterns? I’m really tempted.
I emailed cottonshop and they told me that disco dots should be back in stock very soon.
Wow! That is a lot of dots. So what kind of interfacing did you use for your messenger bag? I just started sewing some bags but haven’t found anything stiff enough for the job.
Looks like the most adorable kind of camouflage I’ve ever seen! But what will you blend in with? A mountain of birthday presents? Jelly bean display?
You are “Super Polka Dot Girl” in that ensemble! Love the colors! Very cute bag!
can u post instructions for bag on ur blog? pretty please?
fabulous bag! it looks very cool. i love all your other dot stuff too.
What’s that Travelocity commercial that’s on TV right now? The one with the Traveling Gnome, who says, “It’s gone dotty bonkers!”
Love the messenger bag! (and all the other dots, too)
Cute bag!
Fab bag. The seam ripper is my best friend in any sewing attempts. You are one crafty chick! 🙂
Pretty freakin’ awesome, Mariko!
You sofa king rule.
Maybe just a little. Very nice though.
just the thing to wear to the GUM Wall!
FABULOUS in every way….
wow!
I think Disco Dots would make a table runner with napkins! You are sooo talented — I love the bags.
That is a riot! I love it! I love visiting here almost everyday to see what you’ve come up with. You are very talented and a little kooky. Both traits are highly revered in Canada!
Cheers, girl!
You’re like the polka dot stalker…hey remember the polka dot guy at Berkeley who wore head to toe dots and was a bit “off”? If you still want to make bags check out the Vogue patt #7862–it’s a Sandra Betzina pattern for a sling messenger bag with a petite version! http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/voguepatterns/shop.cgi?s.item.200007862=x&TI=20015&pageNum=1&M=&UK=32014114
I envy you! I can’t sew to save my life.. The other week my 10 year old son asked if my SISTER could help make costumes for the school play. Didn’t even ASK me 🙁 Of course I would have had to say no anyway. Very FAB outfit!!
No, Mariko, you have a think for *pink and orange* polka dots!! 🙂 I liked Carolyn’s dare, too.
I’ll match Carolyn’s dollar. And that’s a US dollar, which is, like, 20 Canadian dollars or about 8,000 Taiwan dollars!
