the candy man can

Yesterday Peter brought home a paper bag and handed it to me. Guess what was inside?

I nearly hyperventilated. Can you BELIEVE it? I’ve been wanting to try Valomilks for a while now! He got these at a little nut house/barbecue place* a few blocks from the high school. I had heard that this place sold a bunch of interesting candies, but the rumors were from not-so-reliable sources, so I never checked into them. You can probably guess that visiting this store is on my agenda for the coming week. (The Cherry Mash? Not so delicious.)
*Trivia: the nut house used to be a wine tasting place owned by Alex Trebeck of Jeopardy fame.

So, what did you think of the Valomilk? My husband and I were searching for them. Finally found them and were a little disappointed. And BTW did you know that there is a guy who wrote a whole book on candy? It’s called CandyFreak. I guess his favorite (and he appears to be an expert) is the dark chocolate KitKat which they don’t make anymore 🙁

There’s nothing better than a good nut house.

    so jealous of the valomilk!

  7. Don’t like the Cherry Mash? Alas, did you try it mashed up in vanilla ice cream? It’s a bit rich on its own, I know.
Cherry Mash and Valomilks are both made not far from us. I got the hookup, yo.

Valomilk cups are delicious. Such a gooey sweet mistake! Have you tried the Twin Bing?

mmmmmm….Bun bars. Reminds me of vacationing in Indiana and Wisconsin when I was younger.

Valomilk are my favorite candy bar. Luckily, I still live sort of in the Midwest and can often find them. The grocery stores don’t carry them but the smaller shops (including, oddly, the farm-and-ranch supply shop in town) carry them.
I tried Cherry Mash once and decided it was not for me. It’s a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I was expecting something more like a giant Royal Anne chocolate covered cherry.
Incidentally, the vanilla Bun bars are my favorite. They make (or at least used to make) three flavors: caramel, vanilla, and maple. I haven’t seen them in a long time, guess they are a Great Lakes sort of phenomenon.

Is the Cherry Mash similiar to the Cherry Bing???
