Okay, so I finally finished the flowery vest from Girly Knit!
Yeah, that’s Peter’s thumb in the photo. I was too lazy to crop. Here’s a closeup of one of the flowers, complete with beads:
I tell you, mohair is warm! The vest in Girly Knit is white and styled a bit differently. Here is a picture of it. Okay, some specs:
Pattern: basically made it up. It’s just a plain old V-neck vest. I measured an old vest and went from there. It’s an 8K 2P rib.
Yarn: Jo Sharp Kid Mohair in color 603 from elann. I almost got away with using THREE balls, but I had to break into a fourth to knit the neckband. I used 5mm/US 8 needles, but my gauge was looser than what is specified on the band. For the green I used Marvelous Mohair from Steadfast Fibers in color Groovy Green. The orange is Mango Moon.
Am I forgetting any details? I am usually terrible about specs, so I feel very virtuous right now for remembering to save the labels!
Very cute. 🙂
Love the vest! I hear you about the mohair. I just finished knitting up a gift in Kidsilk Haze and I had to take breaks because my hands would get hot. 🙂
That is one terrific vest, Mariko. And it looks great on you! The color combination is fantastic. My daughter will be in Japan in May. I asked her to look for Girly Knit while she’s there.
it’s so purty! like it much better in your eggplant color – did the bead part take long?
looks great. i love the original but the purple and orange look amazing together.well done on the flower. very cute.
It is really adorable!!
Great vest – it is so pretty!
Fantastic vest, Mariko! Very girly!
Very pretty vest, it’s better than I expected when I saw it on a previous visit. I, too, don’t usually care for girlie things. Knit ON!
I like your colorway better.
Very cute vest. The flowers add just the right touch!

That’s awesome! And not overly girly, especially in the purple.
Mariko rocks! That’s a damn cute vest, lady.
Further inspiration for my current vest interest. That is really swell!
mariko the vest turned out gorgeous!
i’ve been wanting to add a huge thank you as well for the wonderful totebag tutorial, and also the pillowcase one which i am going to try today. if they make it easy for a beginner then you know they’re darn good! 🙂
Mariko, the flowery vest is fantastic! In fact, your outfit in the thumb-photo is excellent all around.
What zesty colours! Your outfit has the same colour combination as your blog 😉
so beautiful!!! the flowers look hard to do and the colors stand out so well!!!
That vest looks awesome on you. The colors look great together.
Very cute!
Love the flower detailing! did you wind up leaving just the one lone flower on the back?
So cute and girly! Very nice use of mohair and those embroidered flowers are adorable.
I prefer your color choices to the original.

Just adorable and it looks great on you.
That looks so great on you! The beading adds a nice touch to the flowers too.
Ooh, very pretty! This is definitely one of the best looking FOs I’ve seen… I like the bead detail on the flowers. It’s girly but not overly so. Does it have any side shaping?
I just love this vest! ^_^ The colours that you used are awsome – and I just love your coordinated outfit in that pic. Great job.
