The genius Hillary had the excellent idea to post the ISBN numbers for Japanese crafty books. She also has great information about where and how to order any of these. Others have followed suit, and you can go here to see who they are.
Anyway, some of these are repeats of others, but eh, you can handle that, right? So here we go!
I have Alison to thank for a good chunk of these books!
Hi Mariko, thanks for all the super-useful info on Japanese knitting/sewing books. As I said before I live in Tokyo but going out to look for nice knitting books I usually come back disappointed – for some reason most books display lacy old-fashion patterns and I find very few accesible publications.. But now that I have an idea about what to look for, it’s going to be a lot easier, thanks!
i’ll post mine this weekend. i’m eating a pumpkin choc chip muffin right now. wish you were here! 🙂
Hi Mariko,
I love the bolero on the cover of that knitting book. Do you know if an english-speaker would be able to figure out the knitting instructions in these books? I’d love to get some, they look fun and trendy. I live in NYC, so there are plenty of sources here for japanese books and magazines.

excellent! I haven’t seen many knitting books on other’s sites. thanks for sharing 🙂 I’m often tempted by knitting books at the bookstore and then ultimately chicken out because I don’t think I could decipher the diagrams.
Thanks Mariko! Great books to add to the ever growing database! If the crochet book is still up for grabs, I’d love to take it off your hands…
Thank you thank you! I’ve had a terrible time trying to figure how to find these every you guys post about them! ISBNs make it soooo much easier. My credit card burns in anticipation. 🙂
aww, i’m jealous you have so many j-knitting books! they are so cute. my cousin sent me a couple from japan, mostly on bags and little friends (like amigurumi).
I’m interested in the crochet book…email me! I love the info about Japanese books, they’re all so cute and inspiring.
