It’s been kind of a crazy week around here, and I don’t think it’s going to ease up for a while. Here’s what’s been happening:
Friday: Peter has a phone interview from our hotel room in Santa Barbara with a high school in Portland
Sunday evening: Peter flies to Portland
Monday: Peter accepts the job
Tuesday: I pound a For Sale By Owner sign into the front lawn; Peter flies back
Wednesday: We get an offer on the house
Thursday: We put an offer on a house in Portland, and it is accepted
Okay, so we haven’t sold our house yet, so now I need to decipher these bridge loan forms and hope we qualify. Also, we are having a moving sale Saturday, and Peter is moving up to Portland on Monday. I will stay behind to pack and sell the house.
Here’s our newly acquired (assuming everything goes according to plan) house in Portland! Can you believe I haven’t even stepped foot in it yet?

wow! that takes guts to buy a house un-seen (the inside at least). moving and selling is stressful stuff as it is. hope things goes smoothly for ya.
Congrats! Heh, if you ever want to come to my Stitch and Bitch in Portland email me! Good luck on the move-I just did the whole cali-portland move a few months ago and it can be a doozy-but fun!
Holy moly girl – that is a lot of stuff happening. Big stuff. I always thought that if we live in the US in the future that I’d like to live in Portland, but you are from there, aren’t you? Good luck with the move!
Wow! You move fast, eggplant! That is a cute house, I’m sure you’ll love living there. And Congratulations on your hubby’s new job. Didn’t you mention a while ago that you miss Portland? Sounds like you got good things happening!
Holy cow! That’s quite a week. Mine was more like: Monday: Hung around the house and went to the park with the kids. Tuesday: Same. Wednesday: Same but no park.
Maybe I’ll actually meet you in person. I’m trying to get down to the Portland area for Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival.
woot!
Wow!!! Your life certainly seems fast paced!!!
WOW!!
No to Lake Zero and congrats on Portland!
Guess this means I should get my act together and ummmm send you that thing I have been sitting on sending 🙂
Congratulations!
WAAAAHHHH! And I still haven’t bumped into you down here. Still, I knew you were a fast mover 😉
That is so fantastic! That is what you have always wanted. You will definately sell your house; especially after all the wonderful things your dh did to make it better. I wish both of you much luck and hope that you have a speedy sale, move, and life in Portland.
Congrats! My head is spinning just reading about your week so I’m sure you guys are a tad stressed. Best wishes for EVERYTHING!
Good luck with all the house selling and relocating. And have fun in Portland!
Congratulations! And good lord that all happened fast! Best wishes for an easy and uncomplicated move.
So, I’ve only done the house-buying thing once, but have already developed a theory based on my experience . . . that it’s like the band-aid thing — the quicker it happens, the less painful it is in the long run. So yay for quick house-selling-and-buying, and I hope the new house is as adorable inside as it is from the curb!
Congratulations! I hope it all goes smoothly.
Good golly! That’s amazing! That house is gorgeous…. Congrats!
damn, talk about fast!! in one week, you have totally done a housing 180! 🙂 congrats on the new place! i’m looking forward to pictures of portland and stories of new yarn and fabric stores.
Wow girl you are both so busy! And getting everything done very quickly. I wish you both the best and your house there looks very cute. xoxo
Holy crap! that was fast! Good luck!
OOO, you are moving like a super eggplant indeed! Congratulations on the new house, it’s just darling. I can’t wait to see photos of the inside. And dang, I sure wish i could be at the garage sale! Best wishes on the move!
Congratulations on the move and the house!
Wow! At least I got one more face to face before the big move… Congratulations to Peter on the new job, and to all 3 of you on the new digs! I can’t say I’m not a bit jealous about your move to Portland… what a great place to live! Can we come visit?!?
Oh my! Such news! Congratulations! Moves for jobs are such a pain, but how exciting 🙂
(We’re about to do that too!)
Congratulations, lady! That’s a new cute house, I hope the insides live up to the outside. Let me know if you need anything. I’ll be happy to come to Portland and help you paint in a couple months. 😉
WOW! What a week! I’m sure your family will be glad to have you closer. Even though I’ve only met you once, it was nice to know that the possibility of meeting you wasn’t out of the question. Please tell me that in the whirlwind you’ll have a chance for one more bay area meet up? Or will I be forced to stalk your garage sale?
Best wishes for selling the house & the stuff in it. Your new house looks amazing.
Yay, you’re finally moving back here!!! Congrats! We know you’vre been wanting it for a long time.
Congrats! Welcome back! Cute new house! I’ve got my eye on some of the older homes on the East side but I think that may have to wait until the little on is in school.
Congratulations. I do suspect that you are moving back to Portland simply to be near that mill ends outlet store. I keep meaning to go there on my way through Portland. : D
Congrats! It HAS been a busy week for you!
sad.
My goodness, and I thought you were a busy lady before! You made more major decisions in one week than I probably make in one year! congratulations on everything and happy moving! -t
WOW! Sounds like there’s a lot of fun ahead! Good luck with the relocation.
Welcome (back) to Portland! (We have lots of new yarn stores!)
Congratulations and welcome back! Hope the sale and move go smoothly.
Sara
Holy crap Mariko that is a lot of big stuff happening in your life!!! Congrats to Peter on the new job and I’m so jealous you’re going back to Portland! I was just there visiting and I would love to be able to live there. The house is so cute I’m sure you’re going to love it. Well good luck packing and with the sale and moving and wow, I’m overwhelmed just thinking about it! 🙂
Congrats!!! And since you will be in Portland now, that means you can take control of your brother’s dating life. He definitely needs some help. If yuo aren’t careful, you might find him hanging out in the bad section of town and you will be picking him up at the local police station. But you and Peter have fun packing and moving.
Just reading about your week makes my head spin. Best of luck with the move!
Sounds like exciting things are happening for you! And what a cute house!
Very exciting! Congrats on the new home! Hey, you’ll be closer to Seattle, where you can go to the grocery stores and buy Fluff ;).
Congratulations! I LOVE PDX! In fact, we are driving up the coast at the end of the month for a visit. You must be SO HAPPY!!!
Wow, things are happening fast! What about you, do you have to find a new job, give notice etc? Good luck!
The house is too cute! Congrats to Peter on the job. As one who has just moved, I can heartily sympathize with you. At least I know where my sewing machine is and I got a new sewing chair out of the deal. Good luck with the sale and the move!
Congratulations! I’m really looking forward to vicariously experiencing Portlandy goodness via your blog. Yay for Portland!
Wow, congratulations! It will be nice to be so near family again. Good luck with the packing and the moving… you’ll have to advertise your garage sale here. 🙂

Congratulations Mariko. That was quite a week. You seem to be taking it in stride. Best of luck with the whole moving/selling/ across the country move.
Oh my gawd!
I love the new house. You are going to be making some curtains soon, I reckon.
Congrats, you must be happy to be going to Portland! xoxo Kay
wow! is peter still going to be a teacher?
Dang girl, I haven’t been over here for a few days, and you’ve gone from debugging your house to de-living in it.
I remember you pining to move back there. Congratluations.
And yeah, definitely you should not try to make a living throwing rummage sales.
Brava to you for packing and selling the house yourself! What a picturesque house! Congrats!
