A couple months ago Thuy was trying to talk my wacko brother into getting me a Gocco screenprinting kit. It turned out that he HAD one. Yes, my brother, the ham radio and computer geek, had a Gocco (though you must refer to it as PRINT GOCCO or he will get annoyed, which means, of course, that I consistently call it GOCCO in his presence. Heh). He says everyone in Japan has one, and he lived in Japan for five years.

dang girl you know how i want one of those.
wait – there is a DUCK next door????
Gambatte, ne!
Yes, and apparently half the people on the BackTackII list have one too (check out CreativeMa)….. surely one of them can photocopy their directions for you? I’ve gotta see if my geeky brother has one sitting around (tho he didn’t spend five yrs in Japan – darn).
Oh my goodness! I’m more amazed by the soft-cream lamp you’ve got there! I used to have one when I was a kid!!!!! I loved it and used to secertly lick it as a child…
It’s true – everyone in Japan has a Gocco. I think they are compulsory.
There are really good instructions in English, and tutorials and stuff, on this site:
http://www.nehoc.com.au
Also a Gocco Flikr group where you can ask q’s…
Look forward to seeing what you make 🙂
You need the instructions? I’m more than happy to help you out there – email me if you’re interested. Can’t have you sitting there with a fine piece of machinery you don’t know how to use!
I knew a girl in Toronto who had a GOCCO. Loads of fun! Not trying to plug anything here but she worked for a company which sold “Colour Vie” — a really swell dye which can be used as fabric paint. Consequently it doesn’t dry stiff like a lot of paint does.
So cool! I covet the print GOCCO, and I especially want to get the stamp kit for cloth.
OMG! I’ve been lusting after 6.5 Stitches Alison’s Print GOCCO forever, and now I have to lust over yours as well. I need one!
how wonderful to have such a good (looking) brother!
I’ll join in the list of folks who would be more than happy to photocopy the English instructions for you… just let me know! And, I have been so flakey not to thank you for the awesome surprise package you sent! I’ll send an email…
oh i am so jealous! I covet the gocco. Hey, craftster has a ton of tutorials and a whole forum on printing, and lots of folks on there have goccos. They even post designs to share!
Now, what about blog this book?
The crafty fangirl inside me is going *OMG! GROCCO!*
I’ve been trying to silkscreen tshirts for ages now, but my home-made screens never really worked. I’m saving up the money for a really good photo-emulsion one, but those babies cost upwards of $5000 and I don’t have the cash. Perhaps I’ll just continue to read your blog and vicariously soak up the aura of your Grocco kit.
Hello, Mariko!
I am so jealous of your japanese things that i am secretly craving to go to to Japan and spend a fortune on those and just indulge…aaahhh
Thank to you and Thuy I figured how to buy the Cat and Work book at Kinokuniya and sooo looking forward to get it in the mail and make my own, meanwhile can i borrow a picture of one of your kitties with a squirrel for my post?
Pleeease =)
Arigatou!
you’re so lucky lucky lucky!
i’ve been reading your blog for a while, but this is the first time i’ve been compelled to comment… i want one!!!!
that australian site looks really helpful.
oh by the way, i’m based in the uk, and so i am very intriguied by all the crazy kit-kats and sweeties that you are always eating!!
lucky lucky mariko! can’t wait to see your gocco creations!
purinto gokko wo kaitai. congrats on your new toy. i have plans to buy one within the next month. YATTA!
Sounds like you’re going to have to make nice with your bro! His excellent translation skills are required in the short term…you can get back to treating him normally when you get a hang of the Gocco.
Is that a giant ice cream cone? It reminds me of the giant ice cream cones I saw in japan, outside shops that sell ice cream…mm…I want one!
I’m so jealous! I’ve been coveting one of those for a while now. But I have to say you totally deserve it. Moving is awful. I did it last year and I don’t plan to do it again in this lifetime!
