I’ve also recently become enamored with the otama, and while searching around, I noticed a few places called them “tadpoles.” A google image search for otama shows some clipart of tadpoles, too. It kind of explains the weird shape! (By the way, thanks for posting pics of your Otama Life book! I’ve been trying to get a copy of it, and thanks to your post, I ordered one from Kinokuniya!)

Hi, I love your blog! I think Kiki is right. In Japanese, we call tadpole as “Otama-jakushi”. I think they made it short for “Otama”. Love your Otamas.
Otama jyakushi is the tadpole of a frog when it is in between fish and frog, I think
They are so, so cute. Good job!!
Deedle fetch-toys? I know it touches my heart when my cat plays with her hand-made toys. They’re really cute!
