I guess I can say that I am definitely hooked on the Machiko Kayaki sewing books. Her stuff is really cute but not too crazy. The latest book I got is called Home Couture: My Standard.
Oddly, I want to make many of the sleeveless items. The thing is, I don’t really wear sleeveless tops. In California I rarely wore them because we had air conditioning for those sleeveless-top-weather days. Now, my upper arms are getting to the point where I probably should not reveal them, and it doesn’t get THAT hot in Oregon, but you know, we don’t have air conditioning here, so some days maybe I will need sleeveless? I guess I could have worse problems!
The other book I got is one I have been coveting: the 2006 edition of the “I Love T-shirt” book!
Great ideas for those freezer paper stencils!
One other incredible thing I got at Kinokuniya is a little knife pen for cutting out those freezer paper stencils:
Mariko: I stopped by Kinokuniya on Monday and was THIS close to buying a different Home Couture book. I have her skirt book, which I love! The t-shirt book is SO CUTE! Next time I’m there I must pick up that nifty knife pen. And for what its worth, I wear sleeveless all summer, even though we have air conditioning! =)
That t-shirt books looks great!
Why am I the only one that can’t find the Kinokuniya store… except those in Malaysia, and all ports far west of my place …
Please, will you post a link, so I can find one in my area … I really do need that cutting thingie … I really do.
God bless,
There is nothing funnier than the phrases on Japanese t-shirts. That book looks like a gem!
I’m totally making my own shirt with that love = disease quote. That’s awesome.
Weird about the sleeveless tops thing–I am going through the same experience right now! I am drawn to sleeveless things. I want to make them and buy them, but this may not be the time in my life to rock the sleeveless tops. What the heck?
Oh! NOW I must get down to Uwajimaia/the little book store for a cutter pen.
Love the shirts, especially the cheery “My boyfriend is out of order!”
i like “sorry, sold out.” too cute. i’ve never tried freezer paper transfers, only iron on.
Amazing scores!
From what I’ve seen of your arms when you post pics here, I think you have nothing to worry about in the sleeveless department!
nice score! and great tip on the knife. I lost all me blades in my so-called craftroom, which is really a craproom.
Both of those books are great; what fun t-shirts to make and the sewing projects are nice. I suddenly feel the urge to jump on the sewing and freezer paper bandwagon.
Great books! The Home Couture in particular is quite appealing. However, the hands on that manniquin (the one sporting the denim skirt) are creaping me out!
glad I’m not the only one who thinks those mannikin hands are downright creepy!
I found some old dress patterns (c 1969)at an estate sale today-I thought of you and your love of slightly retro dresses and skirts. I’ll work on scanning them to send you. (Hubby will scan when he wakes up from nap:-) It’s so hot here–102 in Nipomo today. ugh.
does your brother use chowhound.com? I found it from a link of yours and should thank you for it! It has been fun and amazing the last few months!
Does that store have a website? I would love to get either of those books, especially the T-shirt one, but there is not a store here.
