bring it on

Recently I was telling Amy about what a difficult time I had trying to insert an invisible zipper. I told her I had purchased a plastic foot for my machine. She turned ghostly white and said in a very grave manner, “Metal. You need a METAL foot.” So, being a good soldier, I marched off to the local sew & vac and bought a metal foot for my machine.

I tried it today, and it was amazing. I think this whole invisible zipper thing might be life altering. We shall see.

trader joe’s has done it again

Is it wrong to adore Trader Joe’s so much? They have such good deals and tasty foods, and hey, they just came out with a matcha baking mix, so what’s not to love? Here’s my latest TJ’s addiction:

mini pb cups.JPG
Seriously delicious and very difficult to stop eating. Other must-haves from Trader Joe’s include the Parmesan-Romano blend cheese in the tub, the pie crusts, that sweet-and-sour chicken in the frozen section (I like to add broccoli to it), cheese crunchies, Glucosamine blend, Jumbo Raisin Medley, Tofutti Cuties, and a million other items I can’t think of right now. So what are your TJ faves?

patches! we don’t need no stinkin’ patches!

Well hello! I have some superbuzzy news for you. We got in two bolts of new fabric today. Here is a terribly blurry photo of them:

You can see better photos if you go here and look for Arizona Rabbit. They are quite hilarious and feature, well, Arizona Rabbits that are also sheriffs or something. Don’t even ask. I guess strange things can occur in Arizona!
Also, we ran out of the superbuzzy keychains a while back, but now we have new omake! Superbuzzy patches!

Kelly made these using the bubble jet set (yes, it’s available on superbuzzy). She’ll be posting a tutorial on her site soon. So, orders in October will get a superbuzzy patch as well as a Halloween pencil and of course the requisite candies. Doesn’t that make you want to place an order? Ha ha ha!

don’t put off until tomorrow

I got my very first Angry Chicken mailorder package today! Now tell me again why I waited so long to get one? Oh, right, it’s because all you nutty bloggers out there bought up all the copies before I could get my order in! Well, thank goodness I was finally able to get in on the mailorder action! That Amy is certainly very clever, and mailorder is full of goodies. I had been thinking about making pumpkin cake recently, so you can imagine my delight when I noticed the mailorder recipe was pumpkin spice cake. I promptly whipped it up, and yes, it’s delicious and spicy!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I must go take more antibiotics now.

not recommended

Sorry for the lack of blogging. I was sick in bed all day yesterday with what I think is a sinus infection, and then this morning I ran the Portland Marathon. I don’t recommend running a marathon while ill, but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. I actually did better than I had anticipated, so I guess antibiotics aren’t all bad! Hope everyone had a good weekend!

asian food fun

I love how there are always discoveries to be made, especially when they’re unexpected. I have been searching far and wide for cubyrop candies ever since Anjali featured them on her blog (if you are a fan of Japanese candy, you must tune in for her Japanese Candy Fridays). I had searched in vain until today! I found them at an Asian supermarket not far from my house. It specializes in Chinese and Vietnamese food, so I never thought I’d find these coveted little Japanese candies there.

As you can see, I also got some fun-looking marshmallows (made in the Philippines, no less!). The cubyrop do not disappoint. They are hard candies in fruity flavors. Yum. Maybe I should get more to include in superbuzzy orders?
The Asian supermarket (Fubonn) is housed in a larger mall (Fubonn Center) that has all sorts of mysterious Asian stores. One is a bakery with beautiful slices of cake and lots of buns and breads of unknown content. I got this perfect little bun for Peter:

He wouldn’t eat it, though, because he was scared of it. Why?

It has a hot dog in it! In Japan they have all sorts of breads with, uh, exotic foodstuffs crammed into them. I thought Peter might enjoy this bun. After all, it’s kind of like a weiner wrap, and who doesn’t like weiner wraps? Maybe I will eat it tomorrow, though I have been sick lately, and that bun might just send me into a relapse …

more stuff!

Hey all! Thanks for all your interest in the latest items we’ve added to superbuzzy. I think you’ll be pleased with the quality!
So here’s the thing–this morning an order we’d been waiting for arrived. They are really cute cross-stitch kits. We have little tags/labels and buttons (or ponytail holders. The kits come with the elastic!). Check these out:

girl_wappendetail.jpganimal_xstitchbutton.jpg
They are located in the “Tools of the Trade” section of superbuzzy. The tags come with templates for the Japanese hiragana and katakana alphabets, as well as the English alphabet.
IF you already placed an order, you should have received an e-mail from us giving you the opportunity to add a kit (or more!) to your order. If you would like to order one of the cross-stitch kits, please go ahead and do so, and when you check out, select “pick up” as the shipping option. This way you won’t be charged for shipping again, and I’ll just add the kit(s) to your existing order. We’re allowing 2 days for you to add to your order.
Thanks again for all your support and enthusiasm!

shop update!

Hey friends! We (okay, so Kelly) just updated the superbuzzy site, so please take a look if you’re interested. We got quite a few kitchen-themed fabrics as well as some gorgeous cotton lawn with a floral design. We also got a bunch of fun, sturdy trims. And for you canvas freaks, we got a nice, heavy canvas with a map of London on it. I can just see the totes now!

toasted

Alison was the first person Carolyn and I met when we landed in Australia last spring, and she was so gracious and fun that we didn’t really want to leave! She was pregnant with baby #2 at the time, but she wasn’t yet showing. Fast forward six months, and Alison is about to have the baby. Cari organized a cybershower for her, so I broke out the freezer paper and stenciled a couple layette dealies:

I copied the squirrel from a stencil, but the toast is original. I hope the wee one likes them! Congrats to the 6.5 Stitches family!
