race for the cure

I signed up for the Portland Race for the Cure. It’s in a couple weeks. I am not soliciting donations, but hey, if you feel like giving, Deb is raising money on behalf of Team Nostrana (Nostrana is a local restaurant. It won 2006 Restaurant of the Year by the Oregonian newspaper, and it hadn’t even been in business for a year, so you KNOW it’s good!), and she is giving out prizes! Who doesn’t like prizes? Click here for more information. Let’s work together to eradicate breast cancer!

superbuzzy shop update!

Hey all! We got in a whole assortment of new goodies, so Kelly worked her hiney off and added all the new fabric and such to superbuzzy. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the items:

feedsack2.JPG
Some crazy feedsack fabric! I think this would be great for aprons, tablecloths, placemats, you name it.
And yes, the hedgehog fabric:

We also got in some fun glass beads:

We restocked the Clover embroidery patterns plus added those great Clover pom pom makers! Be sure to click on the bear and bunny flannel to see the super cute pajamas Kelly made for her daughter Brynne. Please go check out superbuzzy! Also, I don’t want to be an alarmist, but if you see something you really like, I suggest you don’t wait too long to order. We ran out of some inventory rather quickly before, and while we are doing our best to replenish our stock, some of it can’t be reordered. Please hang in there with us, and hopefully you won’t be disappointed!

mushrooms

My new Casio camera needed a case, and 10-year-old Lillie needed a new pencil case, so voila:

mushroomcases.JPG
I guess it’s kind of mean of me to show you the mushroom canvas, since superbuzzy sold out of it. Sorry. Anyway, Lillie indicated a desire for a poodle patch on her case, which is why there’s a big poodle patch on it. Apparently poodles like mushrooms, too. I lined the pencil case with some heavy canvassy nylon so you could really cram it full of writing implements and not worry about ink seepage. The camera case is lined with some quilted material for a wee bit of padding.
Hope everyone is having a fun Labor Day Weekend!

keeping the casio

I decided to just embrace the Casio and its persimmonness (thanks, Peggy). It has a lot more features than my little Sony. Here’s a photo of today’s lunch so you can see what lovely shots the Casio takes:

Mmmm, it was a delicious sandwich from St. Honore Boulangerie in NW Portland.
In superbuzzy news, Kelly and I are hoping to have an update with new products early next week, so stay tuned!

hello goodbye

I ordered a new camera a few days ago, and it arrived today. I looked at a variety of colored cameras, but in the end I knew I had to have another orange one. I went with the Casio Exilim S600, but here’s the thing–it’s more red than orange, and I’m not sure I am crazy about it:

cameras.JPG
See how cheerfully orange my old Sony is? Amazon even calls the Casio color “red,” but I know it’s what Casio calls orange, because they don’t offer both orange and red. So, I’m in a quandary. Do I return it or just keep it and embrace the red-orangeness of it? It’s not like I have any viable orange options (Fuji makes an orange one, but it’s not compact enough).
And now for something completely different, some of you have expressed interest in Melissa‘s Norwegian apple cake recipe. I believe it is a closely held, secret family recipe, but bribery just might work.

summer shoe sales

Tis the season for the sale of the summer shoes! Now, I am just starting to build a shoe wardrobe. I’ve never had a collection of cute shoes, mostly because I am always replacing my running shoes and don’t want to spend the money on both running shoes AND cute shoes. Also, I have foot issues and can’t walk in most shoes. Since moving to the Big City, though, I have taken a liking to cute shoes and harbor dreams of actually being able to walk in them.

newshoes.JPG
I just got these over the weekend at an incredible sale where all the shoes were $25 a pair! I would have passed up these shoes at regular prices because I like rather than love them, but for $25 a pair? Woohoo! (The sad truth, however, is that despite the building of the shoe wardrobe, you’ll still probably see me in the same old Crocs.)
Updated: I got these shoes at Amenity Shoes at 41st and Fremont in NE Portland. The $25/pair deal was only last Saturday and Sunday, but they still have lots of cute shoes on sale. Shoefly at Bridgeport Village also has tons of nice shoes on sale.

superbuzzin’ treats

Do you think business partner Kelly would approve if she learned all our profits are being spent on the little candies I stick into superbuzzy order packages?

omakecandy.JPG
I figured since we are selling Japanese fabrics, I should include some Japanese candies. The candies will evolve, though, so you never know what you will get. You don’t know how thrilling it is for me to think about the candies (well, maybe you do).

treat patrol

I scored on the treat front yesterday! My friends the Slabs and All Buttoned Up Melissa stopped by with goodies. The Slabs brought butter cookies with pink cream cheese frosting and chocolate espresso cookies, and Melissa brought Norwegian apple cake. YUM.

Everything was really tasty.
Oh, so superbuzzy now has a flickr site so you can share photos of all the lovely things you make with your superbuzzy purchases! Please join and spread the love (there’s nothing there yet).

Dirt

I have returned from backpacking! We went to the Goat Rocks Wilderness Area in Washington. It was really beautiful, with lovely wildflowers and stunning vistas, but my beloved camera chose not to cooperate, so this is the only shot I can offer:

goatrockpp.JPG
That was at the beginning of the trip! Anyway, I think my poor camera might be dead, and as you know, being without a digicam is really painful. I also think if I get a new one, it has to be orange like my old one. Any suggestions?
And I want to thank you again for your support! I will fill orders Saturday and try to get them in the mail Saturday evening (because the airport post office is open until midnight 7 days a week, even holidays!). We just got in a couple new fabrics (no hedgehogs yet) and will work hard to replenish the sold out stock. Some of that inventory is not obtainable here in the US, but it’s such great stuff that we are going to try very hard to get more for you. Okay, I am pretty pooped out, so I think it’s time for ice cream and TV, don’t you?
By the way, we DO ship internationally, so order away!

You like us! You really like us!

Thank you so much for all your support! I have been packaging up orders like crazy, and we have even sold out of some fabrics (which some of you may have discovered the hard way. Kelly is working on fixing the site so you won’t have to wait until you try to check out to learn something is sold out. I hate that!). We are working to get more inventory so that shopping at superbuzzy will always be fun and rewarding! In fact, we’re expecting some nice shipments shortly, and one of them will include … hedgehog fabric! Woohoo!
So anyway, I know it’s crazy timing, but Peter and I are going backpacking for a couple of days. We’re leaving early Wednesday morning, which got me all panicked about getting shipments out, so I went to the post office tonight at 10pm! Can you believe there was a line there?

postoffice.JPG
The very nice postal clerk told me that it’s really busy between 11pm and midnight with all the ebay people! Very interesting. There was one guy whose pants were falling off. They were way too big.
Anyway, thank you again, and I hope you all enjoy your orders. I’ll be back Friday afternoon to start boxing and mailing once again.
